man what a game, I love all the world building and characters voices that add a lot to the game, nice art too. for a game jam this is pretty cool!

Thanks

Hi, just following up on your submission to the Myths and Legends jam. You know its a myth writing jam? So I am just curious if you could give me a TL:DR version of the myth you wrote for this game? Thanks

Hey, thanks for reaching out. The game's story follows a few myths. The overall story can be described as a corrupted version of the return of the prodigal son myth.

It also loosely follows the hero's myth. Victor initially gets hints of the special world during his first case. He's lured into this new world by a fairy-like creature (the homunculus). At the end he becomes a part of this new world.

There are also mentions of a higher power and how it is responsible for all the strange and evil things in the world.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi! Thank you for participating in The Deeper Meaning Jam! I am the host. I have a few questions... did you make this during the Jam? Are you aware that you aren't supposed to use any AI? Does it have A deeper Meaning? And how did you manage to make such a great game? Honestly, I can let the AI go. But did you make the whole of the game in the submission period? I need the confirmation. I haven't finished the game yet, but so far, it's good. Thank you and please get back to me.

Hey, thanks for the comment. I'm gonna be honest, I have worked on this game for 2 weeks and just finished it today. I am making this for another game jam but I just read that they don't allow generative ai so I'd be disqualified anyway. So, I submitted this a few more game jams where the theme matches somewhat just to get some more feedback.

I don't feel like removing the generative ai voices because I started with the idea that the game would have voice acting to make it more immersive.

Edit: as for the deeper meaning, I was going for the angle that all evil things are also made by God. You can find more about that in the game after beating the boss of floor 3. The overall theme of the game is obviously noir + lovecraftian.

Thank you for getting back to me! I believe I will still let voting be an option on this game. Most games don't follow all rules for Jams anyway. Two weeks for this game is good time. On a scale of Beginner, Intermediate, and Professional, which do you think you are? Do you have any experience with 3D game development? And what engine do you use the most? Also, I would highly recommend you listen to "The Game Dev Field Guide" by Zackavelli. You can listen on YouTube or Apple Podcast. He was a great inspiration for me and my game development career.

Three more questions: what is your favorite Video Game? Have you heard of the games LIMBO and INSIDE? And how would you like to be a Judge for the Jam? I see great talent in you. Much more than I see in me.

Thank you and get back to me.

Thanks a lot! I would say I'm a beginner as I have only made about 4-5 complete games. I haven't really made any 3D games. I have only used unity for game development.

I have added that to my watch later, will surely give it a listen today.

My favourite game is probably the original deus ex or dark souls 1. I have played and beaten both limbo and inside and I think they're amazing games.

Whoa, I would love the opportunity to be a judge, thank you so much!

Thank you for getting back to me! You're welcome! You seem to be a beginner close to intermediate. Thank you for thinking about giving the Field Guide a listen. I have used Unity and Unreal Engine 5. I do have Godot but haven't used it yet. Unity is a good, flexible choice. I've never played Dark Souls but have heard great things. I am SO glad you've played LIMBO and INSIDE. To me, they are some of the best games, in my opinion. Are you familiar with Resident Evil 4? Original or Remake.

Great! I will add you as a Judge.

Edit: I will need your Profile URL to add you as a Judge.

Hey thanks, appreciate it. You should try both Deus Ex and Dark Souls (any of the souls games like Bloodborne, Elden ring).
I have played both re4 original and remake. I prefer the gameplay of remake over the original due to the parry mechanic but the original has a better tone and dialog.

I actually don't think you needed AI for the voice parts, the writing and art were great on their own to convey the tone and voice of the NPCs and PC. I really liked the combat, especially the timing windows after the enemy has attacked you to attack back. Health bars would be cool to give an idea of how close me or the enemy are to death.

Hey, thanks for the feedback. I personally think that voice acting adds a lot of immersion to the game, so that's why I went with that.

As for the health, you can see the boss's health as a red bar at the top and the player's health is displayed at the bottom left. Maybe you weren't playing it on full screen?

Edit: The game is finished now
